The Broadmoor Exhibit Hall
General Contractor: Mortenson Construction
Date: 2020
Where: Colorado Springs, CO
Home of the Space Symposium, the premier space industry event in the nation, the Broadmoor Exhibit Hall proved to be an extremely challenging project. With our well documented performance history, MA Mortenson Construction knew that Bible Electric was the only contractor strong enough to meet the intense schedule necessary to complete this project on time. Full BIM coordination helped paved the way to a conflict free installation. Constructing 180,000 square feet of convention space to the world-renowned Broadmoor Hotel’s standards required 40,000 man-hours in 6 months.
A 5,000-amp Square D main switchboard fed by the Broadmoor Hotels medium voltage distribution system provided this facility with the electrical power needed. Over 30 branch and dimming panels were installed to distribute the circuitry required to support the convention floor space as well as the 32 separate breakout meeting rooms. These breakout spaces were outfitted with the latest in audio/visual technology to provide meeting participants with the tools needed to communicate at a high level. In addition to the Hubbell LED dimmable high-bay fixtures, a 2,500 pound chandelier was carefully hung and site lighting poles were placed throughout the new parking lot. The lighting control in this facility is outfitted with two different systems installed to work in unity. The Strand Vision.Net control network utilizes DMX functionality to provide theatrical lighting control throughout the convention floor space and common corridors via a 10” touchscreen. A Wattstopper Digital Lighting Management system was installed to handle the breakout spaces, restrooms, and back of house areas. A total of 28 convention center floor boxes were placed throughout the floor space to provide attendees with 100 amps of power and tele-data connectivity at each box. Additionally, 24 large column boxes were installed to further expand upon the power and data connectivity options. A UL listed lightning protection system was installed to provide additional protection against lightning strikes. Over 3,500 feet of cable tray was installed to provide low voltage cabling distribution throughout the facility. A voice fire alarm system along with a 2-way emergency communication system was also provided by trade partners.
